Comedy, Romance and variety of profession in Half Ticket (1962)


Half Ticket is a classic romantic comedy Hindi film directed by Kalidas in 1962. The film is produced by Bombay Talkies. It is starred by Kishore Kumar, Madhumala and Pran in the leading roles. Besides, there are some supporting characters too. Te film is made based on the Hollywood film ‘You’re Never Too Young’ (1955) directed by Norman Taurog.

So, the name of the file is also noticeable to be a comedy film.     Plot Summary:  Vijay Lal Chand (Kishgore Kumar) is a son of a rich industrialist and businessman. Vijay protests with his friends at the college premises against wrong activities of the college principal. But Vijay’s father does not like that. So, he wants to marry him off to stop these activities. But Vijay at this moment does not want to marry. At first, he wants to be settled. So, he decides to go to Bombay. But he has not enough money to buy a full ticket. He distinguishes as Munna, a child. On the other hand, a diamond smuggler (Pran) keeps a diamond secretly, cost of 2 lac rupees, in Munna’s pant pocket while police coming at the ticket counter. Munna meets Rajnidevi (Madhumala) into the train at her compartment. He falls in love with Rajnidevi. But Rajnidevi thinks him as a child as he belongs to a half ticket for his journey. The diamond smuggler Raja Babu follows her and him for a whole time. In the second stage of the film, their comedy scenes are fulfilled with their comedy activities.in Bombay, Raja Babu and Rajnidevi can understand latter that Munna is not a child. He was just acting and misleading her. But after that Rajnidevi starts to love him when her aunt tells her to take him into their house. At last, she understands that Munna is the person with whom her marriage discussion was going on. On the other hand Vijay begins many professions in Bombay but cannot carry on them. Rajababu and his mistress always follow Vijay to snatch the diamond from his pocket. Raja Babu sends him to the madhouse. But he escapes from there firing in the madhouse. At last, Raja Babu snatches the diamond from his pocket by force and threatening by pistol and tried to fly away by stealing a plane with him but in vain. The police arrest him. On the other hand, the wedding of Asha who was distinguished as Rajnidevi and Vijay is completed.    Variety of Profession:  In the film Asha is a stage dancer. His father is a businessman and is a close friend of Lal Dhyan Chand (Vijay’s father). On the other hand, Raja Babu and his mistress are diamond smuggler. They illegally smuggle diamond. Lal Dhyan Chand is an industrialist and businessman. But who is Vijay Lal Chand? What is his profession? He has no permanent profession. He was a student in the college. But after being dismissed from college, in Bombay, he wanted to do any work. For the first time, he goes to a shop of a cottage industry to get a job. But he fails to get one. Thereafter, he gets a job of ironing clothes. But he could not carry on that job for irresponsibility. On the other hand he does work in a tape recording shop. He works in other sectors but could not carry on there.    Challenging Shot:  In the film Kishore Kumar’s comedy dialogues and comedy performance are noticeable. There is no overacting performance but it’s a comedy film. Romance between Asha and Vijay overdraws this film. On the other hand, it is also a musical film. It has seven popular songs. These songs have helped it to be a musical movie. Director has used some challenging shots at that time of 1962. For example the shots of planes, helicopter, and picker machine cars and others.
