Namastey London (2007) Indian Hindi Film Review

Namastey London is an Indian romantic drama film directed byVipul Amrutlal Shah I 2007. The film is starred by Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles. But it also stars Rishi Kapoor, Jave Sheikh, Upen Patel and Clive Standen in the supporting roles. The film is made based on Akshay Kumar’s friend’s true life story. But many critics criticize it and have found similarities between the film and ‘Puarab Aur Paschim’ acted and directed by Manoj Kumar in 1970. But director Amrutlal Shah has denied it being a remake. Story: An Indian parents lived in London is very serious about their daughter’s future and wants to marry her daughter with an Indian ideal son. They come from London to India but after marriage their daughter refuses to accept that marriage. Personal Review: There are many similarities between the two films ‘Namastey London (2007) and ‘Purab Aur Paschim’ (1970). But Vipul Amrutlal Shah has directed the film changing some events of the film. However, film’s main story or the theme is same. It has some differences that in Namastey London, Jasmeet Malhotra Singh (Jazz) [Katrina Kaif] the female lead character comes to India with her parents. They take her here to marry her with an Indian son. After marriage, they all even Jazz’s new husband Arjun Babu Singh (Akshay Kumar) visit London. Jazz refuses the marriage. She is brought up in London. So, she does not care Indian culture, religious norms, morals and values even marriage arranged in Indian Hindu religious way. But in London, Jazz has relationship with a British man. Arjun falls in love with her in India at the first sight. But Jazz falls in love slowly with arjun in London after their friendship. She slowly understands Arjun’s love to her. At the eleventh hour,of Jazz’s marriage with the British man, she refuses his relation and accepts Arjun’s love and marriage. Thus they come together in India. It is a short story of the film Namastey London. There are some differences in ‘Purab Aur Paschim’ (1970). But the main theme is same. Both of the tow films are patriotic. In ‘Purab Aur Paschim’ after death of Bharat’s father, a long time later, Bharat, after completing his education in India, visits London to achieve higher education staying from his father’s friend’s house. Preeti, his uncle’s daughter, falls in love with Bharat. They all are agreed to in their relationship and marriage. But Preeti does not want to live in India after their marriage. Bharat promises her that he will stay with her where she will want t live. But before marriage, she has to go India with him and see the environment, behavior, conditions and humanity. He has self-confidence that she must stay in India for the life time after seeing these. After coming in India she has been totally changed according to Bharat’s words. She knows about the values of humanity, belief to human and respect to the elders is a power here. The consequence is happened in such a way that Bharat believed. Preeti wants to stay here for the life time when their parents also stay here. There are other supporting events of the two films but the main theme is like this story. So, I will say that Namastey London is made based on this film story though director is telling thatr is based on Akshay Kumar’s friend’s life story. But there are similarities between the two film stories. Katrina Kaif’s performance and dialogues are excellent. The film’s language is Hindi and English. As Katrina as Jazz has lived in London for a long time and did not know speaking Hindi language in Indian style or like Indian people. So, her Hindi language speaking style is excellent like foreign people. On the other hand, her English speaking style is different. Here her dialogues are standard and extraordinary. Natural acting is also passable. Akshay Kumar as Arjun has played his roles naturally and precisely. Overall, excellent performance, natural dialogues, excellent cinematography, smooth editing style awesome background music are also the main characteristics of the film ‘Namastey London’.
