Beta is an Indian
Comedy melodrama film directed by Indra Kumar in 1992. The film is produced by Indra
Kumar himself and Ashok Thakeria. It is starred by three actor and actress Anil
Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit and Aruna Irani in the lead roles. In other supporting
roles, Laxmikant Bedre, Anupam Kher, Priya Arun, Akash Khurana, Kunika, Adi
Irani , Bharat Achrekar and some others have played. Beta is one of the most
grossing films then in India. It’s a comedy melodrama and most popular film.
Especially, there are ten popular songs in the film. So, it’s called musical
drama. Many call it musical and comedy melodrama. Above all, “Dhak Dhak Karne
Laga” is the most popular song in the film. It’s also one of the most popular
and best songs in India. Actually, the film is an official remake. The film
story is taken from the Kannada novel Mallammana Pavada written by B.
Puttaswamayya. The first film, a Telugu movie is directed from this story in
1955. About ten films have been made based on this story. The Telugu film Ardhangi
(1955) is directed by P. Pullaiah, The Tamil film Pennin Perumai (1956)
is directed by P. Pullaiah, The Hindi film Bahurani (1963) is directed
by T.Prakash Rao, The Kannada film Mallammana Pavaada (1969) is directed
by Puttanna Kanagal, The Bengali film Swayamsiddha (1975) is directed by
Sushil Mukherjee, the Hindi film Jyothi (1981) is directed by Pramod
Chakravorty, the Tamil film Enga Chinna Rasa (1987) is directed by K.
Bhagyaraj, then the Hindi film Beta (1992) is directed, The Telugu film Abbaigaru
(1993) is directed by E.V.V. Satyanarayana, the Kannada film Annayya (1993) isdirected by D. Rajendra Babu and the
Oriya film Santana (1998) is directed by Mohammad Mohsin. All these
films are made based on the same story from the Kannada novel.

Beta (1992) is
one of the great works of Indra Kumar. Actually, he directed several high grossing
films but Beta became very popular for its music and melodrama specially
the story. It’s an attractive story features the three lead characters Raju as
son of Laxmi (Anil Kapoor), Saraswati as wife of Raju (Madhuri Dixit) and Laxmi
as step mother of Raju (Aruna Irani). Raju is very fond of his step mother. But
he never sees her as his step mother. He thinks mother is above of all things
in the world. So, he never suspects his mother. But his mother makes him
illiterate for occupying his entire properties. But after his marriage, Raju’s
wife Saraswati wants to save him from all these corruptions and oppression
attributed on him. Here Saraswati is the savior. In the last some scenes, melodramatic
scenes are noticed about them when Raju knew the real state of his step mother
by trying to kill his wife. But unfortunately, Raju himself is faced with death
after taking the milk mixed with poison. Raju thinks he would give everything
if once she asked about that. He does not care about wealth and properties that
his father did to be named on him. Beta is also a family drama because
the film or story cannot go beyond the family or the house. It’s highly a
dramatic film. It is the best of Madhuri Dixit or Anil Kapoor or Indra Kumar. Highly
melodramatic acting, popular and attractive background music and popular songs,
normal cinematography, attractive and family story, extra ordinary make up and
costumes, artistic set and normal editing that have made it best to Indra Kumar
and so it is the best of Indra Kumar.
