Plot Summary:
The film story spans over only two days. Chhoyani
village has no radio. So, the people of the village don’t get any heinous
message of Dhaka. So, they cannot know the situation of liberation war. At the
time of arrival of Pakistani Military in the village, Jalil, a father and a
blacksmith informs this to his adopted father and goes in meeting. Bipin is
very worried when he hears the news of violence in a market and decides to
leave the village for India. But his son Sharat is very hopeful, doesn’t want
to leave the village and leaves the meeting saying that he will fight against
Military and never leave the country. Next day, Pakistani Military attacks in
the village. A lot of villagers are killed by the Military with the help of
Bangladeshi collaborators. Jalil somehow saves his life as well as his children.
But Military takes his daughter and some other young women away. Jalil follows
Military Jeep with swords and knives to bring back his daughter. He becomes
successful strategically to save his daughter and the women through guerrilla
war.

Description:
There are many liberation war films in Bangladesh for example;
Guerrilla (2011), Ora Egaro Jon (1972) and many. From this perspective, the
film story is very important and I feel the film is good for its screenplay. The
film expresses a normal story and a definite event only. So, we cannot get the
main climax of our liberation war in this film and others too. I think what the
scholars and audiences want in such a way, the directors cannot show it
properly or fully. But the movie Pita has expressed/showed a definite event of
our liberation war. I think the film making style of ‘Pita’ is nice specially
its story, music and others.

Analysis:
In this section two points are important. One is formal
technique and the other is thematic content. At first I want to say about
formal techniques of the film. For example; it’s cinematography, editing,
mise-en-scene, lighting, diegetic and non-diegetic sound, genre or its
narrative story. I think I did not get any glamorous or extra ordinary
creativity in cinematography. Its cinematography is very simple. Especially the
shot divisions are very simple. There is camera movement but there are no
creative or variations in shot divisions in cinematography.

Mise-en-scene is
the arrangement of the scenery and props. Here I like the scenery and props arrangements
but they are not too meaningful with our liberation with the perspective of history.
Lighting is good. I think the sound or background music is very attractive. It
is nice to me. When first, I hear the sound score. I felt it will be very nice
if the music is default in the movie. I got the reality till the ending. It is
a very attractive sound. I saw its genre’ It is drama and war. But I think it
will be under drama. Because though the story is of 1971 or of our liberation
war, but the point of view is not nicely presented according to the history. I
like its narrative story, dialogues but in some places background sound effect
is misbehaving. Editing style is common here. I think it is editing style
fault.

The second point is thematic content for example history,
race, gender, sexuality, class or the environment. It is not historical film.
But it is history related. The film cannot express history importantly. And the
subject or events of two days are showed here. Jalil is the powerful man in
this village. But he and his children are only Muslims and all the villagers
are Hindus. Here male and female genders are important though in Bangladeshi culture
male characters are more powerful that has been showed here. In a word the whole
environment has been balanced with class, gender, race and sexuality.

Conclusion:
The film story is about our liberation war. We did not
see liberation war but remember about the theme of our liberation war. Ours people
have brought victory through many small and big events. But in the film only
one event is showed. I want to tell the readers that if they do not watch the
movie, must watch it to understand about our liberation war and why we hate the
Pakistani Military and the collaborators.
