'Rome, Open City' is a drama or thriller film directed by Roberto Rossellini in 1945. It is an Italian Neorealist drama film. By the end of the World War II, Rossellini had given up the film making as the conditions made it impossible to complete. So, Marcello Pagliero had finished the film in 1946. By 1944, there were no virtually film industries or funds in Italy. Then he met and befriended with a land lady and wealthy elderly lady who wanted to finance a documentary on Don Peto Morosini, a catholic priest who had been shot by the Germans for helping the Resistant Fighters in Italy. The lady also agreed to finance in another additional documentary about Roman Children who had fought against the German occupiers. So, Rossellini instead of making two documentaries, directed one combining the two. Plot: Giorgio Manfredi a communist leader goes to another Resistant Fighter, Francesco when German troops are trying to arrest him. He encounters with Pina, Francesco’s fiancé. She is also helping the Resistant Fighters in different way. She helps him to meet Don Pietro Pellegrini- a catholic priest. He also as a priest helps the fighters by transferring messages and money. Pina’s son Marcello and other children also help the Resistant Fighters in different way. They try to plant the bombs. Laura is Pina’s sister. She is not involved in it. She works in a cabaret serving the Nazis and Fascists. Marina is Laura’s old friend and was a girlfriend of Giorgio and an occasional prostitute also works in the cabaret. Don Pietro is scheduled to officiate a Pina and Francesco’s wedding, the next day. But German troops come the next day and is surrounded by Francesco’s apartment. They catch dozens of people with Francesco. But Giorgio runs away when other Resistant Fighters encounter with them. Pina is shot by the troops. Some of them with Francesco escape from the troops. But in next time, Gestapo with his troops catches Giorgio, Francesco and the Priest. They torture them to speak about other Resistant Fighters. But they don’t speak about them. Giorgio and Francesco are shot. But they didn’t speak out anything about them. The priest is taken out to execute. The Italian troops don’t shoot him. But the German officer shoots him. The children saw the scenery. They didn’t tolerate this. They return towards the street.
