Jibon Nouka (1980) is a classical drama Bengali language film written, produced, acted and at the same time directed by Masud Parvez Sohel Rana. The people of Bangladesh know him mostly as Sohel Rana. Actually he acted in the film ‘Masud Rana’ (1973) playing the role of the hero. He took the name Sohel Rana as stage name in 1974. He is known as Sohel Rana in the Dhallywood film industry, since then. He has acted in several Bengali films. Jibon Nouka is one of his best directed films. It is an anguished black and white film (35 mm).

Plot Summary:

Masum (Sohel Rana) is a son of rich family lives in Dhaka with his only father. He loves Hasi (Suchorita) very much. Once they marry but Masum’s father does not accept the new bride. Hasi is a daughter of middle class family lives with her only mother. The couple spends some days in Dhaka at Masum’s friend Kamal’s house. Masum gets a job in Cox’s bazaar as a forest officer. He visits Cox’s bazaar alone keeping Hasi at his friend’s house. Masum is acquainted with Hassan his secretary and Kunti; the daughter of headman. Masum finds out beautiful scenery there.

  So, he sends an air ticket to Hasi so that she can come there easily. Hasi visits Cox’s Bazaar. The life is beautiful. But one day Masum can know that a gangster team sometimes cut trees randomly at Rajargar garden illegally. So, he goes alone there for prevention. His other associates forbid him to go alone there because the gangsters are very strong tyrannical. But Masum goes there and his other assistant. Ablus the head of the gangsters burns his assistant and orders Masum to work them uninterrupted. But Masum didn’t accept their order. So they take him to their dark house and tie him with rope. rapidly and causes a serious accident at mountain road. Hassan and other assistants come to find out him. They look him wounded with broken car. They take him to hospital. The doctor Chaudhary prescribes and recommends Masum’s wife that they should not do any physical relation till 6 months. Even Masum should not do any hard works otherwise he would lose his legs and even he would face with death. So, Hasi does not add her in any physical relation. Even she does not tell his husband about the matter. But she writes all about this matter in a diary. After some days, Masum becomes well and misunderstands Hasi. Their relation becomes more complex. Masum sends Hasi in Dhaka with Hassan. Masum sees some photos of Hassan and Hasi where Hassan goes to kiss Hasi. Masum becomes very agitated to see these kinds of photos and a love letter. But Hassan loves Kunti and Kunti gives the letter to Hasi with the photos.

 Masum extremely misunderstands Hasi. Hasi come back to Cox’s bazaar. After 6 months Hasi wishes to give her to Masum fully. But he avoids her. One day they go to Sea beach. Before they once went there Hasi was sinking in the water but Masum rescued her. But this time Hasi is sinking in the water but Masum does not help her to rescue. Hasi is died. Masum one day sees all about her words in the diary. He can know that she did everything for recovering her husband. He expresses Hassan that he has killed Hasi. Police catch him but he becomes mad. So the judge orders the police to take him to hospital for recovering. But Masum is fleeing towards the sea to find his Hasi. Police shoot him. He is also died. In the last scene, Hasi and Masum are lost with their symbolic love ‘boat’ (Nouka).
